reporting the news

now, why in the world do we need to follow the path of a hurricane for two days straight on the news? i'm truly saddened for the people of new orleans, for those whose lives are in danger, those who will be without homes, and for the historical parts of the city. but, it's like we thrive on fear as americans. no wonder we have such high rates of anxiety/depression. i mean, just to watch a reporter on tv standing in a parking lot in biloxi, ms practically dodging sheet metal that's flying around...it doesn't seem right to me. i know that i can't live in a box. nor would i want to, but this is a good reminder to limit tv watching. to stay informed, but not consumed. to read something positive. to breathe. to pray for and help those affected by a catastrophe.

oh my gosh - i have been totally engrossed all day by ole katrina. it is so crazy how the media grabs on to these dangerous situations and builds fear among everyone. i saw a clip from the today show while i was at the bank today and they were teaching everyone how to have a "hurricane ready home." useful information but a bit dramatic! i don't know which is worse - the bank having a tv in the lobby with minute by minute coverage or the actual today show clip. since the husband and i have family and friends all over southern and central mississippi, all of the media coverage is making me so anxious. thanks for the reminder to pray/breathe/stay positive. i needed it today.
